11th Mississippi Monument

This monument showcases a statue of Color Sergeant William O’Brien of Company C, led by Colonel Francis M. Green. At around 3:00 p.m. on July 3, 1863, Color Sergeant O’Brien raised the colors and the regiment advanced. The assault was repelled with significant casualties, and the surviving members of the regiment regrouped nearby. Sergeant O’Brien was the first of eight color bearers from the regiment to be killed or wounded during the charge.
