The monument to the 12th and 44th New York Infantry Regiments, known as the “Castle,” is the largest regimental monument on the Gettysburg battlefield. The 44th New York Infantry, led by General Daniel Butterfield, held the high ground at Little Round Top, withstanding repeated Confederate assaults and bombardments.
