On July 1, Captain Huber Dilger’s Battery marched with the 11th Corps from Emmitsburg to Gettysburg. Upon arrival, it quickly advanced to the Carlisle Road, taking a position near this location and immediately engaging the enemy. Reinforced by Wheeler’s New York Battery, Captain Dilger advanced twice from this position. The Battery later withdrew with the 11th Corps but paused to engage the enemy again before crossing the bridge into town. For the remainder of the battle, it occupied the extreme right of Major Osborn’s line on Cemetery Hill. The Battery sustained 13 wounded.
